From a Mountie’s point of view, New Year’s Eve was calmer in Prince George than it has been in years past.

This year saw a slight drop in service requests, with a total of 92 calls to police on the last day of 2023. The peak hours for calls to police occurred late in the evening on December 31, 2023 and in the early morning hours of January 1, 2024.

Overall, calls to police on New Year’s Eve were in-line with regular types of service calls: police were kept busy attending to numerous disturbances and incidents caused by intoxicated individuals, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Prince George RCMP attended just over 45,000 calls for service in 2023, which is down from 2022’s year-end total of just over 46,000.
