BC RCMP notifies IIO BC of incident in Prince George

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Prince George which resulted in one man being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

On April 26, 2023, shortly before 9 p.m., Prince George RCMP received a report of a man stabbing people.

Attending officers located a reportedly armed suspect who became aggressive. A conducted energy weapon was deployed, an interaction occurred, and officers discharged their firearms striking the man.

He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim of the initial complaint was also treated at hospital.

The IIO BC is investigating police actions in the incident. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.

Prince George RCMP are conducting a subsequent investigation into the initial assault complaint.
