Detachment’s youngest police dog celebrates her birthday

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is sending a huge shout out to police dog Neeka, who hit her third birthday on Jan. 9, 2023.

Neeka joined the Kamloops RCMP Detachment a little more than a year ago, after she graduated from the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta. The smallest of her teammates, Neeka is most recognizable for her pure black coat and quiet, calm demeanor.

She’s very easy going but has the ability to turn it on when needed, said Corporal Stephen Prior, Neeka’s handler. She excels in tracking; she’s found a lot of crucial evidence.

For her birthday, Neeka spent the day working and chilling with her friend Murphy.
