2023-01-09 11:52 PST
On Wednesday, January 4, the BC RCMP held a swearing-in ceremony, to welcome twelve new Experienced Police Officers to the force.
The officers are joining the RCMP after having started their policing careers with either the Canadian Military Police or various municipal police departments. Each newly hired officer was sworn in by RCMP Assistant Commissioner Maureen Levy, and Chief Superintendent Mark Lepage with their families and friends in attendance. Two officers were unable to attend the ceremony and completed their swearing in virtually.
In late January, the troop of Experienced Police Officers will attend a three-week training course at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack, BC. The training will cover RCMP interviewing techniques, policy and procedures and tactical training. The officers will begin their first posts upon completion of the training.
Graduates of the first 2023 EPO troop will be assigned to:
- Frontline policing (Richmond, Fernie, Nanaimo and Kelowna detachments)
- LMD Integrated Emergency Response Team
- Integrated Forensic Identification Services
- Integrated Homicide Investigation Team
- Federal and Serious Organized Crime
I am honoured to have such skilled officers join us in B.C.,
says Assistant Commissioner, Maureen Levy, Acting Commanding Officer of the BC RCMP. With the knowledge and experience that each officer brings to the RCMP, their career opportunities are truly limitless. I want to thank them for choosing to join such a great organization.
Applications for Experienced Police Officers are accepted throughout the year and there is no deadline to apply. There are over 150 career specializations and detachments all across Canada. Postings for Experienced Police Officers are based on an officer’s interest, career goals and previous police experience.
