Early hour patrols turned into a drug trafficking investigation for Kamloops RCMP officers this morning.

On Jan. 17, 2023, around 3:40 a.m., a frontline officer was patrolling the area of Cornwall Street and Kent Avenue when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no front license plate, during which he observed a can of bear spray in the backseat.

Further investigation led to the discovery of several different kinds of suspected drugs, including seven grams of fentanyl, approximately 32 grams of meth, 44 grams of cocaine, and 25 pills, also believed to be controlled drugs and substances, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. All were seized, along with the bear spray.

Two people were arrested and released at the scene, pending the investigation’s conclusion.
