File # 2022-1832

On June 30, 2023 Josef Brodek was convicted of multiple offences including drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms.

In 2019 Brodek was arrested and a search warrant was conducted of his residence, investigators located significant amounts of drugs, three firearms and over one-hundred thousand dollars in cash. In 2020, investigation led to another search warrant of Brodek’s residence, resulting in the seizure of 3000 single uses of methamphetamine and large amounts of other drugs. In 2022 Brodek sold drugs to undercover police officers on three occasions. A third search of his residence located a wide array of drugs.

In total Port Alberni RCMP seized over $115,000, more than 13,000 individual doses of Methamphetamine; 3000 units of Cocaine; nearly 2600 units of GHB; and over 1100 units of Fentanyl; along with a multitude of other pills and illicit drugs. The investigation and search also located two firearms and a wedding ring that were associated to break and enters and returned the wedding ring to its rightful owner.

The totals number of drugs and cash our officers have taken off the streets is staggering, with the total number of potentially fatal doses equalling the population of the city of Port Alberni stated Constable Richard Johns. Unfortunately, the Covid19 pandemic caused delays in the court system which lead to Mr Brodek being charged for some offences nearly three years later.

Cst. Johns advises Normally the RCMP doesn’t provide a media release regarding a conviction on drug offences. In this case, considering the accused continued trafficking while under charge, the amount of drugs, cash and weapons seized, it’s important that we inform the community of the care, effort and expertise of our officers to investigate these offences to keep us safe.
