Police arrest leads to drug and weapon seizure

On November 11, 2023, at 6:33 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a complaint about two people passed out inside a running vehicle in the 600 block of 10th Avenue, in Warfield, BC.

The officer arrived and located a 29-year-old Castlegar woman and a 35-year-old Trail man inside a vehicle. Neither required medical assistance. The officer spoke to the woman who was seated in the driver seat of the vehicle. The woman could not produce a valid driver’s licence but provided a name of a person who was licenced. The officer remained skeptical; however, did not have a reason to detain her. The man and woman left the scene.

The officer continued her investigation into the identity of the woman. When the officer discovered the woman’s true identity, she learnt that the woman was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle and had a warrant for her arrest.

The officer tracked down and arrested the woman at a residence in the 500 block of Rossland Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officer lodged her into the cell block at the Trail Detachment. A search of the woman’s bag incident to her arrest located a substance believed to be Fentanyl, a replica handgun, and over $400 in cash.

The matter remains under investigation.

Please help prevent and report fires in downtown Trail

On Friday, November 24, 2023, at 9:21 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a fire in the 900 block of Spokane Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer spoke to a 49-year-old Trail woman who reported that her personal items had been lit on fire by a 36-year-old Trail man allegedly in a drug psychosis. All of her items were destroyed. No one was injured during the incident. The woman did not wish to pursue a criminal investigation and was referred to Trail Victim Services for additional support.

The cold winter weather has increased the number of fires lit for warmth and nuisance fires in downtown Trail. If you should spot a fire, please contact the Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue immediately.

Trail RCMP and KBRFR ask the public to lock up or remove all flammable items including construction materials, recycling, and garbage containers, on their properties. These materials are contributing to the fire fuel load available in the downtown core.

Vandalism to the Rossland Royal Canadian Legion

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, a frontline Trail and Greater RCMP officer received a report about graffiti to the Royal Canadian Legion building, in Rossland, BC.

An unknown suspect had painted Rory in three different areas on the building including one of the murals. Most of the graffiti was painted over; however, the mural was damaged and is not easily repaired without significant cost.

Late date, late pass, perfect timing for a ticket

On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 4:19 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in an unmarked police vehicle when, to his surprise, he was overtaken by a speeding vehicle while travelling eastbound on Highway 6, in Trail, BC.

A 38-year-old Trail woman driving a black Nissan Pathfinder allegedly sped passed the officer and his police car at 80km/h in a 50 km/h posted speed zone while straddling the centre line, nearly striking the officer’s vehicle, and an oncoming car, as the passing lane ended onto Rossland Avenue.

The officer activated his emergency equipment and detained the woman and her vehicle roadside. The woman remarked that the officer had perfect timing as she was already late for a walk with a friend. The officer detected an odour of liquor coming from the woman and noted several bottles of liquor inside her vehicle. The woman replied that the liquor was for a friend.

The officer believed that the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the woman who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn.

The 38-year-old Trail woman was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. The officer also issued a $196 fine for Speed against highway sign contrary to Section 146(3) BC MVA and a $109 fine for Pass on left unsafely contrary to Section 159 BC MVA.

Curfew check leads to one in custody

On Monday, November 26, 2023, at 3:21 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers conducted a curfew check on a 20-year-old Trail man at his residence located in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC.

The officers discovered that the man was allegedly not home as per his court ordered conditions of release. The RCMP officers were investigating his whereabouts when he contacted the police later that night and turned himself in.

The 20-year-old Trail man was remanded into custody and will appear before a judge at a later date.

Trail RCMP and Probation officers are working together on this matter and each agency plans to submit a breach charge against the 20-year-old Trail man. Probation has development a system to identify and better monitor high priority offenders on conditions and is working with multiple police agencies to help reduce re-offending in our community, says Sgt. Wicentowich.
