Arrest results in seizure of drugs and cash

On Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer observed a 35-year-old Trail man with an outstanding unendorsed warrant for his arrest walking in the 800 block of Farwell Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer approached the man and informed him that he was under arrest. The man immediately tried to flee; however, was tackled by the officer. The officer restrained the man until two additional officers arrived on scene to assist in the arrest. The man was taken into custody.

Officers searched the man incidental to his arrest and seized 208 grams of a liquid suspected to be a drug, prescription pills, 1.3 grams of a substance believed to be Methamphetamine, electronic weigh scale, a cell phone, and $3355.

The 35-year-old Trail man was released from police custody after an brief virtual appearance before a Provincial Court Judge.

Trail RCMP will be forwarding report to Crown Counsel and requesting criminal charges against the man.

Motor vehicle incident and winter driving road conditions in effect

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 9:04 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision between a small pick up truck and a commercial transport truck in the 4800 block of Highway 3B, in Trail, BC.

The 26-year-old Fruitvale woman was driving her truck westbound when the vehicle suddenly began fishtailing. The truck slid into the path of a 35-year-old Nelson man driving the commercial transport truck. The collision caused both vehicles to end up off the highway. The drivers sustained head injuries and were transported by BC EHS to the local hospital for a medical assessment.

The debris field from the incident was extensive. Traffic was delayed for several hours while road maintenance and two towing companies assisted the RCMP clearing the roadway.

Officers believed the poor weather conditions and icy road surface were factors in the cause of the incident.

Over the weekend, winter driving road conditions came into effect at all elevations in the West Kootenays. First responders attended several motor vehicle incidents on our roads. Trail and Greater District RCMP would like to remind the public to slow down and drive to winter road conditions. Road maintenance trucks need time to plow and sand roads so being prepared and driving defensively are your best tools against crashes this season. Plan all driving ahead of time and always check road and weather conditions before you leave on drivebc.ca.

Give yourself more time to arrive at your destination, leave a wider gap when following, and slow down. Everyone should have good winter tires on their vehicles and winter tires are mandatory on certain roadways and mountain passes.

Please have an emergency travel kit stored inside your vehicle.

• Spare warm clothing
• Flares or matches and light, candles
• Shovel and traction mat, sand or kitty litter (non-clumping_
• Battery jumper cables or a battery jumper device
